ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 8TH OF APRIL 2010.

The UPFA has fielded the strongest team of candidates covering all social strata aiming to obtain a two thirds majority mandate at the upcoming general election, Education Minister and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Susil Premajayantha said.

The United Arab Emirate’s telecom giant, Etisalat launched operations in Sri Lanka with the takeover of Tigo which was Celltel
earlier. Telecommunications has become a major factor in development to which Sri Lanka is heading and Etisalat will cater to

Saudi Arabia lifts travel ban on Sri Lanka

Saudi Arabia has lifted its travel ban on Sri Lanka allowing its citizens to visit the country.
The Kingdom issued the ban in February 2008 after fighting between government forces and LTTE escalated, particularly in the north
and east of the country, Arab News reported.

The profit attributable to the shareholders of the NDB Group increased by 30 percent over the previous year. The profit before tax and the profit after tax also increased by 37 percent and 24 percent respectively over the last year.
This exceptional performance for the year was mainly due to the significant profits earned from the banking segment of the NDB Group.
Lanka ready to face tourist influx
The country will be ready to face the anticipated influx of tourist arrivals with the dawn of peace by increasing the room capacity in the three zonal divisions identified.
With the completion of these projects 7,000 additional rooms will be made available, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General S. Kalaiselvam told Daily News Business.
Over 5,000 acres of land in 13 islands will be developed under the planned Kalpitiya tourist zone. The total land area will be supervised by the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) and will be leased out to potential investors for the proposed development.
Halaal industry in South Asia

BoC enters investment banking
